Student unions affiliated to various political parties submitted a memorandum against Tribhuvan University’s recent decision to hike tuition fees to Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal, in capacity of the varsity’s chancellor, Thursday morning. The student unions are agitating with various programmes since Monday demanding the decision on fee-hike be revoked immediately.

Receiving the memorandum, PM Nepal told student union leaders, the decision on fee-hike was taken with careful consideration by TU academicians. He assured the student leaders that he would talk to TU officials to find a solution by adopting a middle-path.

However, the student union leaders informed the PM that they would not sit for talks again until the decision is revoked.

As per the announced protest programmes, the students also staged sit-in demonstrations for an hour in front of the offices of chiefs of various campuses affiliated to TU, Thursday.

Although, the programme to submit the memorandum to PM Nepal was scheduled for Wednesday, the programme was postponed for today due to the PM’s busy schedule.

The first phase of agitation of the student unions against the fee-hike is ending tomorrow and the student unions have warned they would launch a more intensive agitation if a solution is not found till then. nepalnews.com

Pramesh Manandhar  - Kick the of these stds union leaders   |202.52.248.xxx |2009-11-27 06:30:51
They should be ashamed to call them as the student union leaders. I am also a
student studying MBS under TU affiliated govt. college. I think these leaders
are not the student leaders but the puppet of their Party. TU have hiked the
fees in order to be self reliant and independent. It should hike the price in
order to maintain proper system. But we students need to cross check whether it
is utilized or not. When ever i need to go to my calls room i have to keep a
cloth or paper to dust out my bench where i sit every day. Did you fool leaders
see these things and speak up for this.....

why dont govt. transfer most of the govt. colleges outside kathmandu, give
interest free loan to private college to build infrastructure in eduction hub -
could be butwol, dharan or...

promote part time jobs in those areas like out
sourcing govt. jobs like converting govt. data into digital data.

this will
not just reduce pressure in kathmandu as well as develop another area as a city
and also create new jobs.
