In a function organised to announce the launch of the campaign in capital on Sunday, former speaker Daman Nath Dhungana expressed concerns over widening gap among the parties.
He said, parties have failed to determine the principles and theory for new constitution in the span of 18 months and there is bleak hope that they will complete the responsibility in the next six months.
He called on the parties to concentrate on making constitution instead of debating on who should take government leadership.
Former president of the Nepal Bar Association (NBA) Harihar Dahal said he has no hopes that the country gets a new constitution within the stipulated time. He underlined the need for massive public pressure on political parties to meet the deadlines.
Dahal said, Maoists are in spree to announce autonomous states leaving behind the task mandated through CA.
Nepal Medical Association chairman Dr Kedar Narsingh KC called for greater pressure on parties, even through street protests, and cautioned that preparations must be in place for alternatives if parties fail to write constitution on time.
General Secretary of the Nepal Teachers Association Rameshor Upadhyaya and Human Rights Activist Charan Prasai questioned the Maoists whether their programmes to announces autonomous states is in line with the spirit of civilian supremacy they raise.
The civil society activists also called on the Maoists to strengthen democracy, restore stability and greater interest of the nation. nepalnews.com
