After his government's recent decision to hold a cabinet meeting in the foothills of the Mt. Everest to raise awareness towards the effect of climate change in the fragile ecosystem of the Himalayas, Prime Minister Nepal now wants to see a new zoo built in Kathmandu valley soon.
During a visit to the office of National Trust for Nature Conservation (NTNC) and the Central Zoo at Jawalakhel, Lalitpur on Monday, PM Nepal reportedly directed the NTNC officials to quicken construction work for a new zoo in Suryabinayak of Bhaktapur.
The Central Zoo in Kathmandu is the only zoo in Nepal. The government has plans to shift the Central Zoo from the congested Jawlakhel area to a much spacey location in Suryabinayak following the completion of the construction work there.
Experts have been calling for a bigger area to house the animals of Central Zoo since long. nepalnews.com
