| President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav greets Nepali Congress senior leader... |
During the occasion, they urged Bhattarai to use his good offices to forge consensus among the political parties.
Krishna Prasad Bhattarai, who has already retired from active politics, gave a rare opportunity to top honchos of the political parties to sit together on the table and discuss the crisis that the nation faces today. It was symbolic gesture for consensus but leaders failed to arrive at any conclusion on dealing with the political problem.
The leaders took the opportunity to deliver speeches on current political deadlock and make calls for its solutions at the earliest possible.
President Dr Yadav urged Gandhian leader Bhattarai to take initiative for bringing leaders together and give a fresh lease of life to the newly declared republic.
Prime Minister Nepal, who arrived after President Yadav and Maoist chairman Dahal had already left wishing Bhattarai good health, announced that the government will form a Trust under the octogenarian leader's name which will engage in many social works including operating an Ashram for the elderly and the poor.
"He is a source of inspiration to many leaders in Nepali politics and the government is ready to do all it can to express its gratitude," PM Nepal said.
On the other hand, Maoist chairman Dahal said Bhattarai is one of the inspirational figures of modern Nepali political history.
After receiving requests and appeals from hundreds of leaders, civil society, activists, lawyers, journalists and others gathered at the function to make a call for consensus to the parties concerned to find a way out of the political crisis the nation faces, Bhattarai said he felt that his long political career did not go in waste and that he was happy that he still can be of some use. nepalnews.com
