The Maoists pelted stones at Energy Minister Prakash Sharan Mahat in Baglung when he arrived there after inspecting the Madikhola hydropower project in neighbouring Parbat district on Friday. However, the minister escaped unhurt.

Hundreds of Maoist cadres, who had gathered to show black flag to the minister as part of their ongoing protest against the President's move, smashed the window screen of the minister's vehicle.

Minutes later, the police intervened to disperse the protesting Maoists. District president of Nepali Congress-affiliated Nepal Women's Association Shakuntala Sharma, who had gone to meet the minister, received injuries in a scuffle between the police and the Maoists. She is undergoing treatment at the Baglung District Hospital.

At least five protesters were injured in the clash with the police.
