Visiting US principal deputy assistant secretary of state for south and central Asian affairs, Patrick Moon, met Nepali Congress president Girija Prasad Koirala at the latter's residence in Maharajgunj Wednesday.
The meeting between the US official and the NC president dwelled mainly on Nepal's peace process including the thorny issue of army integration, constitution-drafting, the ongoing dialogue among the parties to resolve the political deadlock and US assistance to Nepal.
During the meeting, Koirala is known to have conveyed his party's stance to Moon that integration of Maoist combatants should take place prior to the promulgation of the new constitution.
Moon, who arrived in Kathmandu for a five-day trip, is scheduled to leave Kathmandu today. During his stay here, he met Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal, DPM and Foreign Minister Sujata Koirala and Maoist chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, among others. He was scheduled to visit a Maoist cantonment in Nawalparasi on Tuesday, but the visit was canceled due to bad weather. nepalnews.com
