| Senior Nepali Congress leader Sher Bahadur Deuba |
Speaking to reporters in Hetauda on Tuesday, Deuba said changing the government through constitutional process would not be unusual, but new alliance emerging anytime soon is anything but possible.
He expressed confidence that the present government would get continuity until the promulgation of new constitution. Deuba also stressed that integration of Maoist combatants should be completed at the earliest to ensure timely constitution-drafting.
Few weeks back, there were reports of the Maoist leadership proposing Deuba to head the next government. Maoist vice chairman Narayan Kaji Shrestha went to Deuba's residence, pledging him support for the PM's post and that Deuba was upbeat about the offer.
Some NC leaders including deputy prime minister Sujata Koirala and joint general secretary Arjun Narsingh K.C have publically said the NC is ready to take up government's leadership, but the party has not said anything officially.
Speculations of a new coalition are rife after Maoist chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal's proposal for new coalition government presented at a recent meeting of the high-level political mechanism, which has been taken positively by some sections in the NC and the UML. nepalnews.com
