US ambassador-nominee to Nepal Scott H. DeLisi has urged Nepal's political parties to exercise "strong leadership" and "judicious flexibility" to reach consensus on key elements of the peace process, and said US can offer support for logical conclusion of the peace process and timely drafting of the constitution.

During his confirmation hearing before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee in US capital Washington D.C., he said stability (in Nepal) will come only with successful completion of Nepal's peace process.

"I would encourage Nepal's political parties to exercise strong leadership and judicious flexibility to reach consensus on key elements of the peace process," the Kathmandu Post quoted DeLisi as saying.

He further said US is ready to offer its assistance to Nepal in the areas of economic growth, health, climate change, and food security in particular.

DeLisi also said that Nepal and United States enjoy long-standing relationship and the "friendship (between the two countries) is more important now than ever as Nepal confronts multiple challenges."

He also expressed US concern towards the existing culture of impunity in Nepal regarding human rights abuses and said he would work closely with Nepal's political leaders to end it.

A career diplomat, DeLisi has served in the United Nations mission in South Asian capitals of Islamabad and Colombo and headed the Nepal desk at the State Department in Washington D.C. nepalnews.com

Yes, will you define the term "strong"?
well, the conventional ideas
about the atude may not enough impact in Nepal, therefore, please respect
Nepalese set up and configuration. Moreover, an officail from a bureaucratic set
up, has no right to prescribe political solution.
Please stay away, if you do
not know.
Dirgha Raj Prasai  - Imposible the strong leadership by the Party leade   |113.199.137.xxx |2010-02-04 21:50:20
Dear editor,
The US Ambador to Nepal Scott H. DeLisi has urged Nepal's
political parties to exercise "strong leadership" and "judicious
flexibility".
But, it is imposible, because all the leaders of all party
are visionless. They are irresponsible for the country. They are fighting for
power and money. The mail cause of the crisis in Nepal is the notorious
activities of the political leaders.

Nepali Congress (NC), UML and UCPN
(Maoist) leaderships have already failed. No one can succeed by breaking the
agreement. On 24, April, 2006, the people’s uprising came to a stop after an
agreement was reached between the monarchy, NC and UML and Maoist included. The
agitators were pleading for monarchy as an alternative force in times of crisis.
An agreement was reached to reinstate the House of Representatives, which was
dissolved under NC recommendation four years ago, although the monarchy did not

I cant understand how come foreigners openly talk about Nepal's internal affairs
and the nation's various press give it a priority? Cant we do anything by
ourself that we have to print what is other's point of view?
I think the
responsibility for an instability in the nation partly goes to the press who
prioritize foreigner's. By doing this we are telling them that " Nepali
people are dumb, please advise us what should we do for ourselves". Please
do correct this mentality.
