The sixth general convention of Press Chautari, an association of journalists close to the CPN (UML), has elected a new executive committee led by Gagan Bista, Saturday.
Bista had received 276 votes, while his nearest rival Pramod Dahal received 201 votes in the elections held Saturday.
The general convention has elected Shreedhar Acharya as the senior vice chairman and Prakash Khatiwada, Rajendra Aryal, Durga Prasad Sharma, Krishna Adhikari and Hemant Paudel as vice chairmen from eastern, central, western, mid-western and far western regions respectively.
Bishnu Rijal, who is also the press advisor to Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal, has been elected the general secretary. Likewise, Madhav Nepal and Lakki Chaudhary have been elected secretary. Durga Bhandari and Achhari Pokhrel have been elected treasurers.
Nepoleun Chepang, Narendra Saud, Mahendra Bista, Ganesh Pande, Shivajee Gayak, Keshav Adhikari, Bimala Rai, Shanti Gurung, Tika Bista, Sarita Dahal, Geeta Adhikari, Yam Kala Pande, Tilak BK, Chetan Adhikari, Ram Kumar Elan, Krishna KC, Mukesh Pokhrel, Upendra KC, Jiwan Sejuwal, Dilli Pokhrel, Navraj Chhatkuli, Yagyaraj Thapa, Birendra Mishra, Laxmi Shah and Yam Bahadur Thapa have been elected executive committee members of the Chautari.
The sixth general convention of Press Chautari has also passed a 12-point proposal including guarantee of press freedom in the new constitution and formation of a press commission. nepalnews.com
