The expression of dissatisfaction over the present government among Nepali Congress (NC) leaders has started to reflect more intensively in party bodies including the parliamentary party.
Most of the lawmakers speaking at a meeting of the parliamentary party at Singha Durbar, Monday called for a change of government saying the present government had been taking most of the decisions unilaterally. They accused Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal of taking decisions on his own without taking suggestions from Nepali Congress.
Parliamentary party spokesperson Navindra Raj Joshi told reporters after the meeting, the lawmakers had expressed serious dissatisfaction over the government's modus operandi.
Joshi said, almost all lawmakers objected to the unilateral decisions taken by the UML by bypassing the coalition culture. The conclusion of today's meeting is the UML's 'upper hand' prevalent in the government should end and the coalition culture followed, he added.
Some lawmakers argued, there is no option to changing the government as the UML had been breaching the coalition culture ever since the formation of the government and that it had not improved.
Ministers representing NC in the government lamented at the meeting they had not been effective as the Prime Minister had taking bypassing their suggestions and taking decisions on his own.
Parliamentary party leader Ram Chandra Poudel suggested after listening to the dissatisfaction of the lawmakers, the problem could be solved by forming a mechanism to coordinate between the government and party on decisions of the government.
NC leaders have started talking about changing the government in the recent days. Lawmakers had made similar demands in some of the previous meetings, too.
Last week, deputy Prime Minister assuming the portfolio of foreign ministry Sujata Koirala, who is also the leader of the NC team in the government, had said in a public function a cabinet meeting of the present government resembled the ‘politburo meeting of the UML.
Today’s NC parliamentary party meeting also discussed other contemporary issues. It condemned the killing of Jamim Shah and demanded the government should improve the law and order situation of the country. Likewise, the meeting also decided to alert the government about chiefs of all three security agencies accompanying home minister Bhim Rawal's to his China trip.
It also concluded that the integration of the Maoist combatants should be concluded before the constitution is drafted. nepalnews.com
