Police arrested around half a dozen Tibetan exiles from the main Buddhist monastery at Bouddha in the capital for organizing what was largely peaceful protests against the Chinese occupation of Tibet on the anniversary of Tibet Uprising Day on Wednesday.

Tibetan exiles chanting slogans against Chinese occupation of Tibet...
Chanting "free Tibet" including other pro-Tibet slogans while waving the Tibetan national flag, around 300 exiles staged demonstration alongside Buddhist monks at the premises of Boudhanath stupa.

There was a heavy police presence at Bouddha, one of the most revered Buddhist prayer   sites in the country, in a bid to foil the anti-China protests of spiralling out of control.  National and international journalists, press photographers and camera crew were also present to report the event.

The police didn't allow the protestors to come out of the main gate of Bouddha and in few instances even resorted to Baton charge to keep the crowd under control.

It is learnt that the police is preparing to book the arrested Tibetans under a serious offence under which they could be imprisoned up to three months.

There is a large presence of riot police in many parts of the country including Baluwatar and Hattisar where the Chinese embassy and its visa section are located.

Nepal is home to more than 20,000 exiled Tibetans who began arriving in the country in hordes from the year 1959 following a failed uprising against Chinese occupation of Tibet.

Nepal has lately come under intense pressure from China to curb what it calls 'anti-China activities' on its soil.

Nepal police on Sunday arrested Thinley Gyatso, the representative of the Dalai Lama in Nepal.

Gyatso was arrested in a bid to prevent anti-China protests on the anniversary of Tibetan Uprising Day celebrated worldwide on March 10.

The 1959 Tibetan Uprising began on 10 March 1959, when an anti-Chinese revolt erupted in Lhasa, the capital of Tibet, which had been under the reign of China since the Invasion of Tibet in 1950. nepalnews.com

I happen to be a nepali who share many commonalities with tibetan and yes that
includes at the core, basic human values and rights. Nepal is a democratic
country and it should respect the democratic values. These people are just doing
peaceful demonstration and not looting or breaking or burning anything like our
own people do. We should use our police to effectively control our own citizens
looting our own people on broad day light and night alike and not the tibetan
with whom we have historical relation. Nepal is over reacting by chinese
influence like a nation without a back bone.
SHAME.

I am reacting after reading "aalo tarkari" comment on the "dalai
who" and his claim that the Nobel Prize Laurette is " the biggest fraud.
I feel pity for this person who seems to be literate but in reality is a stupid
human being. It is a wonder why he was not born a chimpanzee. The Dalai Lama is
not a "fan of none other than george bush." It is the other way around.
Leading world figures, Hollywood stars, Bollywood stars, philosphers, scientists
and people from all walks of life respect the Dalai Lama as a statesman and a
world figure. Whether YOU accept him as a political figure is the right of
yours. Undoubtedly the Dalai Lama is a great and eminent figure. He speaks
nothing against the Chinese but compion. He is not against the Chinese people
but against the ideology of the Chinese and their firm capture of the great
country Tibet that was once a free and independent country. "alo

People who ENJOY living in free world with an access to information have right
and responsibility to defend the freedom of speech, worship and expression of
every human who share this earth because these are birth rights regardless of
your origin. If we ignore this of other's as not applicable to oneself, you
never know when yours' will be taken away. Good Luck.

Many factors/actors are crossing their limits. Every group/sect living this
country have right to ask for rightful demands but they don't have any right to
play with country's sensitive issues that can damage Nepal's vital national
interest.

Nepal gradually is becoming threat for big giant neighbours which
ultimately invite their intervention. So government and all political party
should provide strong support to law enforcing authorities (police and crime
control mechanisms) for taking effective measure to stop these kinds of arrogant
activities.

Don't be spoiler for big nations, otherwise they will not keep
quite for a long.
look at what the maoists did t  - surendra bista   |71.111.150.xxx |2010-03-11 12:23:13
why cant people complain or protest?? look at what the nepal maobadi did to
nepal and the different parts of nepal's territory. now put that in the
perspective of tibet and see what the chinese maobadi did to tibetans in their
cultural territory and continues to do? a simple act of protest is a freeedom to
every human being, whether at home or host country for the poor tibetan bhotes.
there are many complains from the nepali bhote groups and other similar cultural
especially the ones that follow buddhism that are protesting for their cultural
rights due to nepali maobadi's disaster and mis-management. its a freedom of
speech as long as it doesnt include burning tires and utter digusting violence
which most tibetans don't include in their campaigns. we are with you! i
request all free minded nepalis to support such freedoms for all peoples.

all people who know nothing or just are becoming hypocritic of wat Dalai and his
ociate did when they ruled over Tibet and still moan about that idiot lama.

Tibet politically and geographically used to lie at the centre of Asia. She

China, west by India, north by Xinjiang (East Turkistan) and on south by India,

and spiritual leader of the country. Tibet used to govern itself without foreign
influence, conducted its own foreign affairs and had its own army and bank note.
Tibet sovereignty was recognized by its neighbors as well as by Britain. Since,
Communism came to power in 1949 under the leadership of late Mao Zedong in
China; the turning point of Tibet's history came to appear in 1950, when the
People's Liberation Army (PLA) first illegally crossed into the eastern part of
Tibet bordering China. After defeating the small under trained and under
equipped Tibetan army and illegally and forcefully occupying half the country,
armed resistance to the occupation escalated, particularly in Eastern Tibet, the
Chinese repression, which included the destruction of religious and historic
buildings and the
