"This Embassy has been quite surprised to find out some comments on several media regarding the silence of France on the agreement of Mr. Surendra Karki as future Ambassador of Nepal to France," the statement read, "The comments made by some Foreign Ministry officials 'In Diplomatic practice, we have to wait for three months after sending the agreemo. If we don't receive agreemo within that period, the 'diplomatic silence' tell us the appointments are effectively rejected'."
The erstwhile Maoist-led government had named Karki as the ambassador to France on March 18.
The French embassy further said, "This situation is flatly incorrect and we have to deny this assertion in the case of France. The Embassy of France in Nepal had, indeed, communicated on 1st of June 2009 through a Note verbal no° 368/MAE to the Ministry of Foreign Affaires that France has given the agreement to the appointment of Mr. Surendra Kumar KARKI (Ram Karki) as an Ambassador of Nepal to France."
"Mr. Karki is very welcome in France unless the Nepalese government decides to take back its previous appointment, for which a diplomatic process has to be followed," the embassy stated, adding that France regrets the absence of Nepalese Ambassador in France since three years and that such a situation affects the international and bilateral relation between our two countries.
"Moreover, the supposed silence from France should not be used as a pretext of a refusal from France." nepalnews.com
