A businessman in Parsa district committed suicide Sunday night after he could not pay a bank loan that he had taken for operating a plastic industry, Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS) reported.

Binod Gupta, 45, hung himself to death on a noose from a ceiling fan in his bedroom.

Reports say, Gupta was incurring heavy losses in his business due a decline in production from his plastic industry as he could not operate the machineries full time due to long hours of power outage.

Thus, Gupta was not able to pay back the installments of the bank loan he had taken to operate the factory.

According to his friends, Gupta had been under great pressure as the bank had been writing to him again and again to pay back the loan.

Gupta is survived by a son and four daughters. nepalnews.com

People here have correctly blamed the moas - they are the single biggest
contributer to such a situation - all other parties are just 20% - moas have
contributed 80% to the pathetic economic situation of the nation. No time in
history of Nepal have we gone to such a bad state in a span of 3 years after
maos came to power - no time in history - never in our 240 year existence.

In all of the news that I have read and heard of Nepal in these long years, this
is the most touching. My heart goes out to the family of the deceased and to the
deceased soul. The present political situation of the country has become so bad
that common people have to pay to the sins of political rascals with their
lives. Very sad, but who will come forward to bail out the country from the
present crisis. Everyone is pointing finger to other for the problem, who will
redirect those pointing fingers to a common solution? God knows! But, sooner or
later we need to see the rise of a true leader. A leader for Nepal, not for
madhesi, pahadi, dalit, janajati alone, but for all Nepalese.
Hope the day will
come soon, when we will witness the birth of such a leader.
Jai Nepal.

It is really sad that the man had to commit suicide as the bank loan could not
be timely paid. The Government is fully responsible for this serious lapse for
imposing long load shedding. There are many industries which are suffering for
want of electricity to run the factory. This has resulted in low production,
under utilization of capacity, closure and so on. If the Govt. dont take
remedial steps the things may go beyond control and the industries would not be
able to clear the bank loans.

Banks are only limited for their own profits and personal benefits of the
emplyees too. They shoud take a kind of humanitarian responsibility and also to
be understand of the nations's worst present situation.

m  - it's maos to blame   |113.199.147.xxx |2010-03-16 22:08:41
Don 't blame the banks and power outage -it's these bloody maos and their
nonsense demands - next the countries economy will die. ALso power shortage can
be blamed to moais insurgency and destruction of infrastructure and inability of
governments to make dams due to maoists presece. The economy is like this not
because of the present govt. - its all because of the mkaos and their activites
over the decade.

Yes and albeit the maosit unions and their ridiculous demands had a lot to do
with it as well. Bank gave him money (loan) for the business so they have a
right to ask for repayment but what have maoists and their demands given - death
and suicide and economic collapse.
