The preliminary investigation Friday by a high level medical team dispatched from Kathmandu has suspected dysentery outbreak in Nepalgunj of Banke district.
A five-member team of doctors under the coordination of Dr. Pramod Khanal and Dr. Suman Thakur conducted sample testing today in Nepalgunj and reached such a conclusion. Until this, bout of diarrhoea was reported.
Patients are fainting within a short time of expression of symptoms of the disease and have slow pulse rate, informed doctors. According to them, these are the major symptoms of dysentery.
For bringing the outbreak under control, the ministry of heath on Friday mobilised a medical team from the valley to Banke and Dang districts, both hit by diarrhoea since Wednesday.
The ministry decided to send doctors of the epidemiological unit at Tropical and Infectious Disease Hospital (TIDH), Teku in view that the outbreak might take an epidemic form.
At least six patients including a minor have died after suffering from the outbreak in the recent flood areas in the districts so far.
Meanwhile, Banke district health office has mobilised health workers in the seven wards of Nepalgunj municipality.
Some 200 patients from Nepalgunj have been admitted in various government and private hospitals in the city after falling sick due to diarrhoea. While in Dang, around two dozen are reported to have caught the outbreak. Of this, more than three dozen people are reportedly serious.
Doctors say those who returned home after getting the treatment are starting to coming back to the hospital after falling sick with the same disease. nepalnews.com
