A company based in Qatar has fired 529 Nepali migrant workers citing the repercussions of global economic recession.

These laid off employees, who went to Qatar via Trikon Manpower in Kathmandu, were working in Pensaltica company.

The company also denied the workers of their remuneration of four months.

Santosh K.C, one of the returnees, said that the company only provided them with air ticket before being fired. "It (the company) only told us that our salary will be sent via banking channel," he further said.

K.C also bemoaned that the economic crisis has made it pretty tough for migrant workers to get job in Qatar. "Even if you get employment, it is not sure whether you will be paid or not," he beamoaned.

These "misfortunate" Nepali labourers worked in Qatar for six to twenty four months. nepalnews.com

BARWA is state owned real estate company in Qatar and holds 14% share of Panceltica as well.
