Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation Sharat Singh Bhandari inaugurated the Business Service Centre of the Federation of Business and Professional Women of Nepal (FBPWN) in the capital on Thursday.
The centre, established with the financial assistance of the European Commission, aims at training 200 entrepreneurs in the next two-and-a-half years.
The training will be continued till the enterprises are sustainable and profitable. It is expected that about 80 micro entrepreneurs will 'graduate" into small entrepreneurs.
The Centre established with the technical assistance of the Italian Association for Women in Development (AIDOS) envisages reducing poverty and the economic and social exclusion of Nepali women.
The Centre will work with disadvantaged and poor women of productive age who are already carrying out income generating activities and have the willingness and motivation to turn them into more viable and market oriented businesses.
Currently the BSC is active in Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Bhaktapur and Nuwakot districts. The FBPWN is a pioneer social professional organisation which has served as a platform for the articulation of the interests and problems of Nepalese women since its inception in 1975.
Similarly, the AIDO is an international NGO with headquarters in Italy. It has been collaborating with Nepali NGOs for ten years in the fields of reproductive health, gender based violence, women's empowerment and creation of women's enterprises. nepalnews.com
