Newly appointed Nepali envoy to Canada Dr Bhoj Raj Ghimire has said he will make utmost efforts to leverage the notion of economic diplomacy to attract Canadian investment in various avenues of Nepal.

Talking to Nepalnews, Ghimire said he was planning to strategically attract Canadians into pouring investment in tourism, hydropower and other potential sectors to further strengthen the economic and trade relations between the two countries.

"There is a tremendous scope of promoting relations between Nepal and Canada in the fields of trade, investment and even development cooperation. As such my efforts will be concentrated on giving a new momentum to the mutual cooperation between the two countries," he said.

Gimire also stated that he would take initiations to facilitate private sectors of the both countries to conduct business exchange, trade fair and other trade related interaction in a systematic manner.

Federation of Nepalese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) has also appealed to Ghimire to make proactive initiations to attract Canadian investment especially in the hydropower sector.

"Canada boasts not only being one of highest per capital earning economies but it also possesses dynamic knowledge and advanced technology on developing hydropower. Such being the case, Nepal can well reap sustainable benefits in hydropower sector with Canadian assistance," said Kush Kumar Joshi, president, FNCCI.

Joshi had also urged the newly appointed envoy to help expand the market of Nepali readymade garment, carpet, pashmina and other handicraft products in Canada.  nepalnews.com
