The revenue collection in Sarlahi has been affected due to the rampant smuggling of concrete and sand, reports RSS.

It is said illegal export of concrete and sand has been on the rise in the district since the government hiked up the tax.

The government, in the current fiscal year, has increased the tax on per cubic meter concrete by Rs. 110 and per cubic meter sand by Rs. 200 compared to the last fiscal year.

It is said over 40 trucks loaded with concrete and sand left for India from the district daily.

However, of them, only one or two pay the customs duty, said Rup Kumar Pokharel, chief of Sarlahi custom office. Most of them use other points to export the goods, he said. It could not be controlled as the office is reeling under the employees' crunch, he added.

"The office could not control the illegal import of concrete and sand alone as this all is happening in connivance with the local police administration", said a source.

In the past years, the revenue collection in the district had exceeded the target. But, this year, there is a maximum possibility that the target will not be met, said the office.nepalnews.com
