The trans-Himalayan bus service, which commenced on May 1, 2005, was suspended in 2006 due to transportation permit hassles.
In order to insert a new momentum to the upcoming Nepal Tourism Year, Nepal and China are said to be working to restart the bus service between Kathmandu and the capital of China's Tibet Autonomous Region.
According to the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB), attempts will be made to link directly with travel and tours operators who will operate chartered bus service on the Kathmandu-Lhasa route due to long procedural problems in obtaining transportation permits.
Both countries had started direct bus service between Kathmandu and Lhasa on April 29, 2005, 11 years after signing of a transport agreement between Nepal and China.
The state-owned Sajha Yatayat and Himalaya Limited Corporation were designated as operating agencies of Nepal and the Tibet Autonomous Region of China respectively. nepalnews.com
