Rai, Karki scoop Player of the Year awards

Jumanu Rai brought smile on the face of all football administrators and players he scooped the title of Best Player of the Year (male) in the Nepal Sports Journalist Forum (NSJF) sports Award at Rastriya Nachghar, Jamal Thursday evening.

Rai competed with the likes of Shiva Ram Shrestha (golfer), Manish Hamal (chess), Kamal Adhikari (weight lifting) and Shiva Ram Choudhary (athletics) to grab the prestigious title.  Rai was not present at the prize distribution ceremony as he is currently playing professional football with the All Youth Linkage Club in the Maldives. Nepal skipper Rakesh Shrestha took the prize on behalf of him.

Rakesh Shrestha described Rai as a hard working player. “Jumanu is very determined and hard working guy. He is committed to his game and that’s why NSJF honored him”.

Best female Player of the Year award was won by swimming queen Karishma Karki who won 12 gold medals in the 5th National games.

Player of the Year (Youth):

The nominees for player of the year youth were Prithu Banskota, Biraj Maharjan, Bishworupa Buda, Maya Raut and Keshari Choudhary. Keshari Choudhary received the title for her outstanding performances in Athletics through out the year.

Best Coach of the Year:

The nominees for Best Coach of the year were Jit Bahadur Choudhary, Jamil Ansari, Roy Luke Dias, Sushil Narsingha Rana and Ishwor Karki.. Athletics coach Sushil Narsingha Rana grabbed the award.

Mehboob Alam was awarded Special Player of the Year for his brilliant 10 wicket haul against Mozambique in the World Cup qualifying match. The award organizer, NSJF, decided to provide Life Time Achievement award to long time serving coach Parth Sarathi Sen Gupta.

Gupta has been the chief coach of Weight-lifting for more than 15 years and has been serving in sports field for three decades.

In the meantime, the much anticipated Popular Player of the Year award went to Manju Gurung, a popular volleyball player from Pokhara. Manju received 112,000 votes whole her close rival Karishma Karki received around 40,000 votes. 

The programme also featured various dance and ramp shows performed by sports players.

i dont understand why most of our player r in sareee n suite only , what does it
shows that we belong to civilize society ,u know when i saw da award ceremony on
news i thought da venue was somewhere in india sponser indian company ,guest
indian ,on top of that our player dress look like indian ,coz of all these
indian r taking advantage ,whats wrong in our traditional dress if not atleast
wear in function ,, my dear player u need to do a lot of hard work ur still far
frm popular ok see da voter figure , there r 20 million poeple in nepal

you guys doing very good award programme but i thinks you guys should be
selected one of the referee award also. which makes referee's also forwarded and
doing day by day help for progress & fair matches .
