A two-day international workshop on climate change and its impact on food security in Asia kicked off in Kathmandu on Monday.
Agriculture and climate experts from across Asia will present their papers in the workshop on several issues including climate change and its impact on agricultural productivity, food security, seasonal farming, use of improved seeds and modern equipment and establishment of regional food store, according to reports.
The experts will also discuss issues like global warming, snow melting, flooding of productive land, rise in water level of rivers and oceans,loss of agricultural productivity, loss of biodiversity, loss of quality of agricultural produce due to excessive use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides and loss of soil fertility.
The workshop is being jointly organized by the International Federation of Agriculture Producers and the Federation of Nepal National Cooperatives. Representatives from 12 countries including Nepal, India, Pakistan, Japan, Israel and Thailand are taking part in the workshop. nepalnews.com
