A Gurkha Settlement Office has been established in Manbhawan, Lalitpur to provide assistance to British Gurkha ex-servicemen and their eligible dependents who are considering applying for settlement in the United Kingdom.
"The role of the office is to provide essential information to prepare British Gurkha ex-servicemen and their eligible dependents for life in the UK. It will highlight important issues they will need to know about before deciding whether to settle in the UK and will answer questions on life and support arrangements that would be available once there," a press release issued by the British Embassy in Kathmandu to inform about the opening ofthe office said.
The office will also provide guidance on the visa application process and the staffs, who speak Nepali and English, can provide assistance to complete the visa application form if required, the release added.
The opening of the office was warmly welcomed by Gurkha ex-servicemen's organizations in Nepal.
"We welcome the opening of the office. It means that ex-Gurkhas and their families can get the advice and support they need, at no cost, and make important and informed decisions about their futures," said Major (Retired) Bhim Bahadur Gurung, Chairman of the Regimental Associations Nepal. nepalnews.com
