Alleged wood smugglers have shot dead a forest guard in Rautahat, Saturday morning.
Employee of Brindavan Range Post Ram Lal Sah, 39, was killed during a cross-firing between the smugglers and the forest guards, Armed Police Force (APF) personnel included.
Three forest guards with an APF squad had gone to Balerikhor jungle on the border of Rautahat and Sarlahi district based on a tip-off that a large amount of wood was being smuggled from the forest.
A cross-firing began when the forest guards and APF personnel reached the jungle. Sah collapsed after receiving a bullet on his temple, according to another forest guard Ram Dayal Sah.
District Forest Office, Rautahat had arrested two persons in connection with wood smuggling recently. DFO employees had been receiving threats of murder over the phone after the incident. nepalnews.com
