The trend in construction of houses on land near the banks of local brooks has increased in the district in recent times, state-owned news agency RSS reports.

Executive Officer of the Madhyapur Thimi Municipality, Ram Prasad Pathak said there is increasing trend of constructing houses on such land of the Manohara and Hanumante rivulets in the district.

He said dozens of new houses have been found constructed on the bank of the Manohara stream from local Jadibuti up to Changunarayan.

It has been found that people have been constructing houses even on land which was previously riverbed after diverting the river.

Pathak said people involved in illegal sand extraction from the riverbeds divert these streams looking out for fresh sand mines.

He said the Municipality has issued public notices in the media calling on people not to construct houses by encroaching upon the public land but complained that the real estate developers are not taking heed to the notice.

Pathak said real estate entrepreneurs have been developing housing plots even on public land like near the river banks and selling them to buyers flouting the rules and regulations.

He said the Municipality will demolish houses constructed by encroaching upon public land. nepalnews.com

It is very sad to see the condition of fertile arable land being converted into
plots for housing without city plan by the laymen who does not know the modern
insfrastructure.

Our so called leaders and policy makers are resposible for
this and some of the banks which are on the verge of collaps leaving millions of
Nepalese depositors in life long economic desester. They are quitely looking the
desester. People will construct houses in the plotting as they have invested
their hard earned money. What happens when the full constructions take
place?

A motor bike only enough for transportation and what about
sewage/water/electricity lines? Have anyone thought about this?

If public notices have already been issued, then all that the municipality needs
to do is get the bulldozers. Let the people see that there is still some law in
the country.
