On the occasion of new year 2067 BS, NRN UK organised a colourful program, “Tribute to the Legends” at the Rivermead Leisure Complex, Reading. UK-based Nepali artistes including Sharmila Bardewa, Situ Kharel, Bivek Shrestha, Sanjeev Singh, Dipu Gurung and Sapan Rai sang immortal songs of Nepali musical legends including late Narayan Gopal, late Tara Devi, Bhakta Raj Acharya, Aruna Lama, Arun Thapa and Pravin Gurung, among others.

A 17-member ‘You and Us’ band of the Brigade of Gurkhas had played live music to all the performances with their state-of-the-art musical instruments. At times, hundreds of members of audience took to the floor and danced to the tune of various popular numbers.

On the occasion, Madan Thapa and Norden Tsering were felicitated for their contributions to promote Nepali arts and music.

Charge d’affaires at the Nepali embassy in London, Jhabindra P Aryal, president of the NRN UK Surya Gurung and mayor of Reading borough, Fred Pugh, had inaugurated the event jointly by lighting a tradition ‘panas.’ Ram Krishna Tripathi ‘Samveda’ had directed the music, art and audio-visual of the program.

“The program was organised to pay tribute to our musical heroes and educate our youngsters about the rich musical heritage of Nepal,” said Surya Gurung, president of the NRN UK. “We are really enthused from the huge participation of expatriate Nepalis from all over the UK and hope to get similar support in the future as well,” he added.
NRN UK has extended sincere thanks to the artistes, sponsors, organisations and individuals who helped make the program a grand success. nepalnews.com
