Karnel Singh Sardar of Bhajani Municipality-3 Bardwaphanta of Kailali does not have much land. He has three bighas of land. Wheat does not grow well in winter. Due to the flooding of the river, Kadha, in the rainy season, the only thing that can be cultivated is paddy.
The three bighas of land are the main source of income for his family. A decade and a half ago, Karnel Singh had been earning a decent income from the same farm. Now that the production has decreased drastically, he has turned to selling the land.
Due to the floods, the fields become barren in the rainy season. As it is not possible to grow food in the field under such conditions, Karnel Singh has to sell the land to support his family. "We have not been able to make any profit with the crops yielded so far," said Colonel Singh.
