The import of Chinese goods entering Nepal through Rasuwagadhi transit has increased. As per the agreement reached between the border officials of Rasuwa and Jilung provinces in Kerung a few days ago, the volume of goods imported has started increasing.

A meeting was held between the Chief District Officer of Rasuwa and Chinese officials at the border to address the demand of the Nepali market to the increased imports that have been stalled due to the COVID.

Chief District Officer Nawaraj Jaisi informed that the number of goods being imported from nine containers daily has increased to 14 containers at Rasuwagadhi since Wednesday. Border security personnel have stated that the imported goods have reached Rasuwagadhi this morning.

Jaisi said that the Chinese authorities have already committed to bringing 25 containers of goods to Rasuwagadi daily.

According to the Rasuwa Customs Office, the imported goods include small and large vehicles, hydropower equipment, shoes, slippers, readymade garments, electronic goods, clothes, thermos, baby toys, walnut, apples and garlic.

Chief Customs Officer Dr Ram Prasad Mainali said that the customs administration is ready to expedite the testing and inspection of goods imported from China. He said that first priority would be given to perishable items like apple, ginger and garlic.
