The Kathmandu Metropolitan Environment Department has taken action against the locals for dumping sewage in the Bagmati River and dumping garbage on the river bank.

The corporation has taken action as a penalty on the initiative of the campaigners of Bagmati Sanitation Campaign. Campaigner Kishore Singh Shahi told that during the 471st week of cleaning, some householders and shopkeepers were found blocking the sidewalk and dumping garbage during the cleaning campaign 500 meters south of Bagmati Bridge at Sinamangal.

The materials placed on the road have also been removed on the initiative of the corporation. The corporation has fined Ram Prasad Bhusal Rs.5,000. From this week onwards, the Mahabhiyan had made public its support to the concerned bodies to change the form of sanitation and impose fines on those who litter.

The Bagmati Sanitation Campaign, which started on May 19, 2013 AD, has recently entered its 10th year after completing nine years. On this occasion, the form of cleaning has been changed. The campaign has repeatedly drawn the attention of the concerned bodies including the Bagmati Civilization Integrated Development Committee, which has the authority to take action against those who dump garbage by placing CCTV on the river bank.
