The Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ), a joint body of Nepali journalists, has entered its 67th year of establishment. The Federation for the Rights of Journalists has been fighting incessantly for civil rights, democracy, freedom of the press, rights of journalists and professional issues.

As it enters its 67th year, the federation has been claiming that the state has shown the character of ignoring rather than correcting some of the provisions of the three-tier law. Stating that the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) is serious about making the Nepali press independent and dignified and is positive about making necessary laws for it, Chairman Bipul Pokharel said that the FNJ would strongly oppose any attempt to make laws with controlling intent.

He again urged the FNCCI to formulate a law on communication in a way that would fully guarantee the freedom of the press through adequate discussions and consensus with the concerned parties. FNJ has been demanding full implementation of the Working Journalists Act, promotion of small investment in self-employed and non-profit media, the establishment of mass media training institutes at central and state levels, the establishment of public service broadcasters and the establishment of mass media authority for enhancing the efficiency of journalists.

On the occasion, President Pokharel congratulated the members of the federation, the general Nepali media personnel and supporters of press and freedom of expression scattered all over the country and around the world.

The federation has been drawing the attention of the concerned bodies including the government to meet the demands of accident and health insurance for journalists, arrangement of free treatment, distribution of subsistence allowance to senior and disabled journalists and establishment of mass media development fund.

The congratulatory message said, "The Central Working Committee elected from the 26th General Convention in April 2077 will raise our issues with priority. It will formulate its strategy focusing on press freedom and labour issues. This is our common commitment. Congratulations to all on the occasion. I appeal to all to fulfil our responsibility and the role expected by society. ”

On the occasion of the day, the federation has also organized creative programs such as morning procession, futsal competition, interaction with experts in various fields of communication, blood donation and health camp.
