President Bidya Devi Bhandari received Rakshya Bandhan (sacred thread tied around the wrist) as per the Vedic ritual on the occasion of Rakshya Bandhan and Janai Purnima.
President Bhandari received the sacred thread offered to her by Pandit Khemchandra Dhakal at the Office of President, Shital Niwas, at Maharajgunj in Kathmandu on Friday.
Bhandari also received blessings and offerings of the Rajkalash established by the Rajopadhyay Brahmins community's Kantipuriya Upakarma Guthi.
As per the tradition, the Head of the State is offered blessings and Rakshya Bandhan following the completion of Yagya performed during the Shrawani Karma.
Meanwhile, the President also received Rakhi from the Bramhakumari Rajyoga Service Centre. 'Rakhi' is cotton's traditional bracelet often put by sisters to brothers for protection from evil forces on this day.
