After twelve days of stalling, waste management in Kathmandu Valley has restarted. Garbage disposal at 18 local levels of the Kathmandu Valley has started this morning after the locals and stakeholders agreed to complete the road construction work immediately.

Stating that the road construction work was not completed within the stipulated time, the garbage could not be picked up from February 13 due to obstruction by the locals. Stating that the maintenance work of the six-kilometer road section at Sisdol in Nuwakot has not been completed on time, the locals of Kathmandu valley have not been able to manage waste materials due to the obstruction by the locals on the Pasanglamu Highway.

According to Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC), it will take at least five days to manage all the garbage accumulated on the roads of Kathmandu Valley even though the management of garbage started this morning after 12 days.

According to Sarita Rai, head of the KMC Environment Department, the problem has arisen time and again due to the inability to find a long-term solution for the disposal of garbage at the local level. According to him, the road started in 2013 has not been constructed till now and the locals have been protesting time and again. "The central government should be more sensitive towards such issues," he said.
