The year 2022 has come to an end, but every end is a new beginning. So let us welcome 2023. Many artists have emerged this year who are making a name for themselves on social media platforms through their songs.

Bekcha

Bekcha gained popularity during the lockdown after Yabesh Thapa shared the reply version of his song ‘Maya ko Katha’. He started uploading song covers on YouTube nine years ago but gained attention only last year.

His father, who sang in restaurants and bars, inspired and introduced the artist to singing. "I was also heavily influenced by singer Arun Thapa. "His songs were occasionally played in my house when I was a kid," he says.

He began writing his own music about 4-5 years ago. "I read a lot of books and try to paint pictures with my words and songs. I try not only to sing songs but also to paint a story with them, a story that many people can understand and relate to ", he continues.

Bekcha began his music career a year ago when he signed with Garage Entertainment. ""The door of opportunities and collaboration is slowly and gradually opening for me," he says.

Samir Shrestha

The 19-year old artist started singing from his childhood days but got involved in music seriously after completing his schooling. Following this, he got positive feedback from his friends and relatives, which made him pursue music more.

Shrestha used to chant Bipul Chettri’s songs like ‘Ram Sailee’ and ‘Ashar’, along with other singers like Swoopna Suman, Sajan Raj Vaidya, and Sushant KC songs. Sajjan Raj Vaidya was an idol for him and inspired him to follow his singing dream.

He says, “As I used to sing since my childhood, my parents were used to it. But when my friends heard me singing, they couldn’t believe it. Whenever my songs are played in a cafe or restaurant, they

Somea Baraili

Somea Baraili, a self-taught vocalist, liked singing since her childhood and used to actively participate in school programs. However, she began her singing career professionally in 2013.

After high school, she started doing gigs after which she got an offer to sing as a playback singer.

Every song of the Anmol KC starrer movie ‘Dreams’ was sung by Baraili. She is also the singer of the popular Nepali song ‘Jaalma’.

Though the songs she sang gained a lot of popularity, her name isn’t known much. “I am okay with not gaining popularity right now”, she says. “I haven’t written my own songs till date. I would be happier if the audience loved my songs and I gained fame through it”, she adds.

Yabesh Thapa

A young talented artist Yabesh Thapa is known for his love songs. He not only worked on his singles but also collaborated with several other singers, musicians like Oasis Thapa, Vek and more.

Thapa says that, “I feel like I got into the music industry at the correct time. As the music industry is changing slowly, I feel lucky to be a part of the industry right when I myself is evolving as an artist.” Thapa's current favorite song to perform is ‘K huncha bhanera’. “When I’m performing this song, I sing it on the track as I like to pick the mic up and vibe with the crowds”, he says.

“Especially when the song reaches the ‘thaha cha malai’ moment in the middle of the song and everyone starts singing together. I see everyone vibing to the music so ‘K huncha bhanera’ is my go to song”, he adds.
