NepalNews team went to yet another food review and this time we had asked our readers to suggest a place to go next on our Instagram Story. All thanks to her suggestion, I got to know about Piano Piano South, a perfect authentic Italian haven, located at Bakhundole, Sanepa. Rebranded from Piano B, Piano Piano South is a perfect place with an amazingly calm ambience surrounded by greenery. And to add to the tranquil glory, it is a perfect place for authentic Italian food.

While I have no specific favoutive cuisine, Italian has always been my top pick. The tempting taste and texture has always fascinated my food palette and honestly, who does not like pizzas, right? Opened 2 years ago, Piano Piano South had moved to their present location just 10 months ago.

Chiranjeeve, Operational Manager of the restaurant, says, “Piano Piano South tries to serve the customers with not only authentic taste but also organic food. And we try to serve a warm, homely vibe, a place where one can enjoy great food and a great glass of wine.”

When you do visit Piano Piano South, you will have two choices of sittings, you can either sit inside or you can sit outside surrounded by trees, enjoying the peaceful bliss.

I chose to sit outside but was disturbed by mosquitoes. However, it was worth it. Each of the food on their menu sounded so good and their array of wine was impeccable. While I was confused on where to begin, the head chef, Sushant Manandhar suggested Suppli’ Di Riso, and Polpette Di Pollo for starters.

He said, “I know the name sounds very complicated but in simple words, Suppli’ Di Riso' is ‘Rice Balls’ made out of authentic Italian rice, Arborio rice, and served with marinara sauce.” I was glad that I listened to him as the cylindrical shaped deep fried heaven made out of a mixture of rice, spinach, mozzarella and parmesan cheese had a perfect golden brown exterior and as I took a bite the crunch was perfect. The thick Marinara sauce added a tangy flavour that balanced out the crunch really well.

Polpette Di Pollo are Italian meatballs made out of smoked chicken served alongside yoghourt dill sauce. While the meatballs were perfectly fried and the meat had a subtle smoky taste, the sauce added a light creamy flavour to it. Making it a perfect snack for a hot summer evening.

Then came the time for main dishes. How could I say no to the classic but tasty Margarita pizza and a perfect pasta dish, Tortellini. I also sided the pasta with a glass of Cabernet Sauvignon, a perfect companion for the cheesy goodness.

The freshly baked thin crust pizza was exactly what I had hoped for, a perfect layer of fresh tomato sauce at the top with mozzarella cheese and basil leaves. It was indeed as the Italians say it “a simple pizza” but packed with flavours.

It was very evident that I was eager to try the Tortellini. A pasta filled with cow cheddar, ricotta and parmesan cheese, then tossed in the bed of mixed chicken sauce and then topped with Basil. The pasta was soft and creamy, and the tangy sauce brought the dish together. The glass of red wine was a cherry on top.

Talking about the cherry on the top, it was finally time for dessert! I was on top of the moon when I saw that they had Tiramisu. The classic Italian dessert made out of ladyfinger biscuit soaked in rum, served with ricotta cream and topped with coffee powder. For people who love coffee, this is definitely a perfect dessert; a symphony of bitter and creamy.

However, that is not the end, as the Chef had sent us a complimentary dessert, Gelato, the homemade Italian ice cream.

We were served in two flavours: chocolate and mango. Standing true to its flavours the ice cream was creamy and the flavours were not too overpowering. It was indeed a perfect end for the hot summer night.
