Bangladesh records 1,452 new COVID-19 cases, 60 more deaths

Police in southeastern Bangladesh on Saturday killed at least five people at an under-construction power plant amid clashes with thousands of workers protesting over unpaid wages and other demands.

Bangladesh reported 1,452 new COVID-19 cases and 60 new deaths on Saturday, making the tally at 760,584 and the death toll at 11,510, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said.

The official data showed that 15,117 samples were tested in the last 24 hours across Bangladesh.

The total number of recovered patients in the country stood at 684,671 including 3,245 new recoveries on Saturday, said the DGHS.

According to the official data, the COVID-19 fatality rate in Bangladesh is now 1.51 per cent and the current recovery rate is 90.02 percent.

Bangladesh recorded the highest daily new cases of 7,626 on April 7 and the highest number of deaths of 112 on April 19.
