The entry permit of migrant workers working in South Korea through EPS has been extended for one more year. The South Korean government has extended the entry permit of Nepali workers, including those whose work permits are about to expire from January 1 to April 12, due to the pandemic.

Workers who enter Korea initially get a three-year entry permit. After the expiration of that period, there is a rule to get an entry permit for another four years and 10 months by adding one more year and 10 months, but due to the Coronavirus pandemic last year, Korea has not been able to bring in the required number of migrant workers. Uday Rai, president of the Migrant Workers' Union (MTU), said that the entry permit has been extended only to those who have completed the three-year period or four years and 10 months.

With the addition of the entry permit, the three-year period and the current four-year and 10-month period will be extended to five years and 10 months. Workers who complete their three-year terms will be able to add one year and 10 months entry permit after completing one more year and four years as per the existing rules. Due to COVID-19, the process is likely to take longer.
