A 'general surgery service' has been started at Tikapur Hospital in Kailali. Despite being a well-equipped hospital, patients were facing problems due to a lack of specialists. General Surgeon Dr Navin Chandra Bhatt is about to start his service at the hospital recently.
Earlier, Dr Bhatt, who was working at Bir Hospital, Kathmandu, was transferred to Tikapur Hospital. He informed that now all the services of General and GI surgery will be started from the hospital. "This is the surgery for problems such as hydrocephalus, hernias, cysts, stones, piles, fistulas, breast lumps, breast tumours, blood and water filling in the chest," he said.
According to him, this surgery is a small hole drilled by a machine without an incision. With the arrival of Dr Bhatt, there are now eight specialist doctors in the hospital. The hospital, which has a staff of nine doctors, has two government posts and the remaining six are working to get facilities from the local level and other areas.
General Surgeon, Orthopedics, Pediatrics, Gynecology and Obstetrics, Anesthesia and MDGP services are available at the hospital, said Jhapat Bahadur Sodari, Chairman of the Hospital Management Committee. He also said that preparations are being made to upgrade the existing 51-bed hospital to 51 beds by making a master plan of the hospital. "We are working on how to expand the services in the hospital along with the development of the hospital. We are preparing to make a master plan along with the upgrading of the hospital," he said.
Up to 500 patients are receiving treatment at the hospital daily. People from Tikapur, Lamki, Bhajani Municipality, Janaki, Joshipur and Rajapur of Bardiya district have also come here for treatment. The number of people seeking services is increasing as the health insurance program has been implemented here. Tikapur, Bhajani Municipality and Janaki Village Municipality have been assisting in the expansion of specialist services and other services in the hospital as the citizens of the municipality will get services here.
