'Koseli' program in the maternity ward

The 'Vice President with Sutkeri' program conducted by Pathibhara Yangwarak Municipality of Taplejung has been effective.

The village municipality has launched 'Vice President with Maternity' program targeting pregnant women and midwives since last year. Under the program, Ranmaya Gurung, vice-chairperson of the village municipality, has been reaching the maternity homes with food and nutritious food. “There are more than 100 pregnant women in the municipality. It is encouraging for all of them to be at home, "he said." We are also spreading the message in the family that they should be given extra care and support during childbirth."

According to Vice-Chairman Gurung, the program was not only an opportunity to visit the midwives of the village but also conveyed the message that the pregnant women should be given nutritious food and necessary care. He said that under the program, four kilograms of Chanamatar, one kilogram of Horlicks and other health items and warm clothes for newborns and soap, nail clippers, pads and changing clothes for each pregnant woman have been delivered to their homes within 20 days of delivery.

So far in the current fiscal year, Koseli has been provided to 104 maternity homes. It is said that Koseli was provided to 33 midwives in Pathibhara Yangwarak Gaonpalika-1. Similarly, Koseli has been delivered to 33 maternity homes in Ward No. 2, 15 in Ward No. 4, seven in Ward No. 5 and 16 in Ward No. 6, said Vice-Chairman Gurung. "I am preparing to go to the maternity ward of Ward No. 2 with Koseli and a health worker from today," he said.

The program has been started with the objective of providing health check-up and safe delivery at the health post, said Vice-Chairman Gurung. Devendra Limbu, chief of the health branch of Pathibhara Yangwarak village, said that the program was conducted with the objective of distributing materials to the pregnant women at their homes and raising public awareness about safe delivery. He said that materials including safe delivery and health message have been distributed.

Chief Limbu said that apart from the government of Nepal providing maternity expenses. He said that video X-ray camps have been conducted in every ward of the village municipality for the health examination of pregnant women every two months. Last year, she reached the house of 78 midwives through the same program and reached Koseli.
