Even though garbage management in Kathmandu Valley has been started regularly for five days, the garbage in many places is still the same.

The Kathmandu Metropolitan City has not been able to manage the garbage piled up on the side of the road even though the garbage that could not be picked up for 12 days has been disposed off since February 24. This has a direct impact on traffic and pedestrians. So far, the garbage piled up at Kalimati, Tankeshwar Chowk and Dallu Bridge of Kampa has not been disposed off. When garbage stays in one place for a long time, the stench spreads and there is more problem.

Sarita Rai, chief of the CPN-UML's environment department, said that there was a problem of garbage being dumped for a long time even though it was managed regularly and garbage would be managed in all places within the next two days. Due to the obstruction of the locals, garbage management of 18 local levels of Kathmandu Valley could not be done from February 13.

Garbage could not be picked up due to obstruction by the locals on the Pasanglamu Highway saying that the road leading to Sisdol in Nuwakot has not been repaired. According to Rai, problems have arisen time and again due to lack of long-term plan for the disposal of garbage at 18 local levels of the Kathmandu Valley.

Since the road started from 2070 BS has not been built yet, the locals have been obstructing the garbage disposal by agitating time and again. "The federal government should be sensitive in this regard," she said. "Initiatives should be taken to build the road in time." Garbage of 18 local levels of Kathmandu Valley is being managed at Sisdol in Nuwakot. There is a problem in waste management after the place was filled. About one thousand metric tons of garbage comes out of the valley daily.
