19 newly elected members of National Assembly takes oath

Chairman of the National Assembly Ganesh Prasad Timilsina has administered oath of office and secrecy to 19 newly elected members of the National Assembly.

 They were sworn in at a ceremony held at the Federal Parliament Secretariat in Singha Durbar today.

 The newly elected members are Jayanti Devi Rai, Sonam Geljen Sherpa, Gopal Kumar Basnet, Urmila Aryal, Mohammad Khalid, Gomadevi Timilsina, Krishna Prasad Poudel, Kamala Pant and Bhuvan Bahadur Sunar.

Newly elected members Suresh Kumar Ale Magar, Rajendra Laxmi Gaire, Tul Prasad Bishwakarma, Yuvraj Sharma, Durga Gurung, Nara Bahadur Bista, Uday Bahadur Bohara, Madan Kumari Shah (Garima), Jagat Bahadur Parki and Narayan Dutta Mishra have also taken oath.

There is a constitutional provision that newly elected members must take oath in accordance with federal law before participating in the assembly and parliamentary committee. It was seen that some members came in their ethnic attire to take oath.

Elections for 19 seats in the National Assembly were held on January 26. Their term will be six years.

 At the ceremony, Chairman Timilsina presented the logo of the Federal Parliament to the newly elected members. Secretary General of the Secretariat Dr. Bharatraj Gautam congratulated them on their successful tenure on behalf of the Secretariat.

 Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Dilendra Prasad Badu, leaders of various political parties in the National Assembly, were present on the occasion. The Parliament Secretariat is also scheduled to brief them today on Parliament and parliamentary practice.
