206 Nepalese workers died in Saudi Arabia in a year

It has been reported that hundreds of Nepalese die every year in Saudi Arabia. According to the Nepalese Embassy in Riyadh, road accidents are the main causes of death of Nepali people in foreign lands.

14 Nepalese died due to corona infection.

Out of 206 people who died due to accidents or various reasons in Saudi Arabia during the fiscal year 2078/79, 180 bodies have been sent to Nepal. The Nepalese Embassy has informed that the bodies of 8 people are yet to be sent.

Thus, among the causes of death of Nepalese in Saudi Arabia, 112 people died due to natural causes including heart attack, 34 people died in suicide, 31 people died in road accidents, 14 people died in work accidents, 14 people died due to corona infection and 1 person was killed.


According to the embassy, ​​the salary and bonus of the deceased Nepalese are yet to receive from the company and the money for the Nepalese worker who died in a road accident was received and sent to the family. It has also been stated that the case related to the money of 325 Nepalese workers who died in the traffic accident has been followed up in the relevant police office for filing in the court. Money of 18 cases has been received and sent to the respective families.


Hospitals in Saudi Arabia also treat Nepalese workers. Embassy staff met with 25 such patients and returned those who were able to return home.

There are 36 Nepalese women who were rescued from different places in Saudi Arabia and kept in the shelter of the embassy for a long time and returned to their country. They were rescued in such a condition that they were not given work as prescribed, held hostage, physically and mentally tortured.

The Nepalese embassy is also operating a center for the assistance of Nepalese who are in distress in Riyadh and Dammam. With the help of Non-Residential Nepalese Association, 513 Nepalese were provided with food and accommodation within a period of 1 year. Similarly, 1939 people who were in the repatriation center were returned to their country.

Nepalese working in Saudi Arabia have been facing various problems such as companies giving low salary, not paying salary on time, not allowing them to go on vacation and fining them for various reasons.

The Nepalese government has purchased land for the construction of the Nepali Embassy building in the diplomatic quarter of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, where there is a high concentration of Nepali workers.
