ADWAN campaign to end all forms of violence begins

ADWAN has launched a campaign to reduce all forms of violence.

Association for Dalit Women's Advancement in Nepal (ADWAN) has started their campaign to end violence in wards 9 to 16 of Ratnanagar Municipality from Monday. ADWAN said that the campaign was launched with the objective of ending all forms of violence against women and the Dalit community.

Launching the campaign, Ratnanagar Municipality Deputy Chief Bimaladevi Duwadi pointed out the need for unity among the community for the practical implementation of the constitutional and legal rights. ADWAN has been working in the field of rights, education, advocacy and livelihood, especially for rural women and adolescents. Established in 1998, ADWAN has been providing scholarships to 200 students from deprived communities in Arghakhanchi, Gorkha, Chitwan, Baglung and Tanahun districts.

Pampha Pariyar, Chairperson, and Bindu Pariyar, General Secretary, of ADWAN said that the objective of ADWAN is to empower the economically deprived, Dalit women and the most marginalized communities of the state in educational, economical, social, cultural and political terms. Dr. Bishnumaya Pariyar, the founder of ADWAN, said that the campaign was launched targeting the economically weaker society, which has high rates of alcohol consumption and violence against women in the same household.
