All services provided by the Department of Information and Broadcasting (DIB) will go digital. Minister for Communications and Information Technology Gyanendra Bahadur Karki inaugurated the BRLMS, DMS, Information Management System and CAS SMS Online System amid a function here today.

On the occasion, Minister Karki who is also the government spokesperson directed the concerned authorities to make online services provided by the Department user-friendly, useful, effective, inspirational, exemplary and safe, as information technology is connected to country's prosperity.

"Today is the age of information and technology. The world is transformed into a global village. We should be effortful to leverage communications and information technology for maximally benefit the country."

Country's future should be sought within IT by attracting youths, who have been in foreign countries for job opportunities, towards the sector, he viewed. IT has a golden future as in water resources, tourism and commercial agriculture, he said.

Underlining the need for exploring potentials in IT and translating it, he underscored the need for taking the nation ahead as per the government's goal for a prosperous Nepal.

The Department has launched the information management system under the online service since last year.

  In the current fiscal year, 927 newspapers, 38 television channels, 251 radio and 1497 online submitted the quota.

To date, the number of journalists receiving the press card stands at 31,025, according to Department director general Gogan Bahadur Hamal.
