Delta Plus variant detected in Bharatpur Hospital in Chitwan

Nepal's Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) Sunday reported 1,688 new cases of coronavirus infection.

The Delta Plus variant of COVID-19 has been detected in Chitwan district.

Issuing a press statement here on Sunday, Bharatpur Hospital, Chitwan confirmed that the Delta Plus variant was detected in two of the five swabs collected here and sent to the National Public Health Laboratory in Kathmandu.

The variant detected is from a swab sample collected from a patient in Bharatpur Metropolitan City, informed Dr Pramod Poudel, COVID focal coordinator. The Delta Plus variant is more infectious than the previous Alpha variant detected during the first wave as per various researches, said Poudel.

The Delta Plus variant is deadlier to all age groups. Experts say that it has the potential to affect the lungs more.

The statement also appealed to all citizens to follow public health standards with high vigilance.
