Distribution of goats to uplift the living standard of rural farmers

Birtamod Municipality of Jhapa has distributed 500 goats to the farmers in the city.

 The goats have been distributed under the 'Mayor Pocket Goat Exchange Program' with the objective of encouraging farmers in animal husbandry, said Savitra Kumari Dahal, Chief of Livestock and Fisheries Development Branch of the municipality. "The goats have been distributed as per the plan to encourage the city dwellers in animal husbandry and make them self-sufficient in meat products," he said. "Since 2017 AD, 500 goats has been distributed and 165 pens have been constructed." He said that Rs. 4.1 million has been spent for the construction of the goat shed alone.

 Mayor Pavitra Mahatara Prasarin said that the program was brought to uplift the living standard of farmers in rural areas. "Many farmers have benefited from this program," he said. He said that if a goat dies for any reason, another goat will be provided if it comes with proof.

 Meanwhile, the municipality has distributed 45 goats at the rate of three to 15 farmers in Ward No. 8 and one goat was send to the Kisanvitta Commercial Animal Husbandry and Farmers Group. The goats returned by Shreejangha Goat Breeding Farmers Group and Hariyali Goat Breeding Group of Ward No. 7 have been distributed to the farmers of Kisanvitta Commercial Animal Husbandry and Farmers Group.
