Newly appointed election commissioner Sagun Shamsher JB Rana has been sworn in today.

Chief Election Commissioner Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya administered the oath of office and secrecy to Rana.

Rana was sworn in at the ceremony held amid a function at the office of the election commission in Kantipath.

Rana assumed office today itself, said the EC’s spokesperson Raj Kumar Shrestha. Rana who previously worked for the Nepali Army took the oath of office and secrecy as per the constitutional provision. He was sworn in 45 days after the constitutional council recommended him for the position in the context when the House of Representatives is not carrying out its business and there is no provision for a parliamentary hearing at present.
