Emphasis on sustainable groundwater management

Experts have emphasized that proper management of groundwater should be considered only from the point of view of use. Speaking at a workshop on the importance of groundwater organized by SmartWash on the occasion of World Water Day, he said that the government bodies concerned with its proper management have not paid attention to it yet. Inaugurating the program, MP Jeevan Ram Shrestha said that despite the provision of clean drinking water as a fundamental right of the constitution, there is shortage of water in big cities like Kathmandu due to increasing population density.

He said that attention should be paid to sustainable management by conserving water sources and resources. Chairman of Smart Habitat Ramdeep Sah said that half of the water used for drinking water in the world is ground water. He said that World Water Day has been celebrated on 22nd March every year since 1993 to raise awareness about water.
