Karnali Chief Minister Jeevan Bahadur Shahi has said that it is the responsibility of all to protect human rights.

Addressing an interaction on 'Status of Human Rights' organized by the National Human Rights Commission at Karnali in Surkhet today, he said that human rights would be protected if every citizen could perform his duties honestly along with the state bodies.

Chief Minister Shahi also said that one should be aware of the violation of the rights of others while exercising one's rights.

Stating that the rights of all have been ensured in the constitution, he said that the state, private sector and civil society should make positive contribution from their respective areas for its observance. "Who will protect human rights if businessmen are expensive, black marketeers, legal practitioners do not advocate for the poor without money, young students beat the police?" Chief Minister Shahi said, "Everybody's question is not directed towards the government and the state. It is important if we can create the identity of a good citizen by being accountable to the society."

Chief Justice of the Karnali State Government Dhruva Kumar Shrestha expressed the view that disease, hunger and poverty are the challenges in the protection of human rights in Karnali. Likewise, President of the Surkhet Chamber of Commerce and Industry Laxman Kandel expressed his commitment to support the protection of the rights of the general consumers and the promotion of human rights from the industry and business sector.

He said that the association has been carrying out various social responsibility activities for the human rights of the extremely poor community. Deputy Secretary of the National Human Rights Commission Hari Gyawali gave information about the content of the program. The commission has also opened a liaison office in Birendranagar from today.
