Govt. paid 21 billion in health insurance

The government has so far paid about Rs 21 billion in health insurance programs. About 5.9 million citizens of 70 districts of the country have been included in this program for a period of six years, and five billion rupees have yet to be paid.

In a program organized by the Chamber of Nepal Industry and Commerce here today, Health and Population Minister Bhawani Prasad Khapung informed that a working group has been formed to solve the problems faced in health insurance. Mentioning that the goal is to establish a health post in each ward and a 15-bed hospital in the municipality, he said that various 98 types of medicines are provided to the people free of charge from the municipal, provincial and central hospitals.

Executive Director of Health Insurance Board, Dr. Damodar Basaula, informed about the obstacles and problems seen in insurance implementation. The president of Mahasangh Shekhar Golcha, senior vice president Chandra Dhakal, insurance expert Baburam Humagain, president of Bimak Sangh Chunki Shrestha and others emphasized that this program which was started to bring health insurance to the general public should be made more effective. It is said that the program will be conducted soon in seven districts including Kathmandu and Lalitpur.
