Spokesperson of Nepali Congress Dr. Prakasharan Mahat has said that in the case of fake Bhutanese refugees, it is an act of making those who have not been accused guilty. Spokesman Mahat, who is also the finance minister, said that the Congress has a clear opinion that the guilty should not escape and the acquittal should not go unpunished.

Speaking to the media on Tuesday, Spokesman Mahat said that the Nepali Congress Party would support a fair and independent investigation into the case of fake Bhutanese refugees.

He said that there should not be a situation where the innocent become guilty and the guilty become innocent. He clarified that party central member and former home minister Balkrishna Khad said that he would prove his innocence, so the party has not taken any decision regarding him.

Spokesperson Mahat asserted that UML Secretary Top Bahadur Rayamajhi and the issue of mining are different and cannot be lumped together. Mentioning that the investigation is ongoing, he said that the party will form its opinion based on the findings of the investigation.

He said that the party has drawn serious attention to the spread of fake audio regarding Arju Rana Deuba.

Deuba himself has already applied to the Cyber Bureau to investigate the audio.

In response to a question, he said that party chairman Sher Bahadur Deuba is helping for a fair and independent investigation of fake Bhutanese refugees. He said that if those involved in the incident are found guilty, they will proceed according to the legal process.
