Landslide hits Southern Rasuwa

A landslide, triggered by incessant rainfall last night completely disrupted a highway along the Banuwa Ghumti area in southern Rasuwa, a district in Bagmati Province.

As the District Police Office Rasuwa said, the landfall caused, road cave-in, between Majhgaun and Banuwa Ghumti at Uttargaya rural municipality-5, that lies in southern part of the district in the Himalayan region.

The disaster has its implications on settlement towards the lower areas. Likewise, it has caused significant damages to crops.

However no human casualty has been reported from the incident. Until the filing of this report, preparations to resume the traffic and information collection of the loss details were going on since this morning. Vehicles have totally been halted and not allowed to travel in Betrawati, Pahirebensi, and Mailukhu following the landslides.

The disaster and its implications in the traffic, on the eve of Janai Purnima festival has affected the probable visitors to Gosaikunda on the occasion of the festival. Gosaikunda, country's one famous religious sites, draws a large number of devotees to take a holy dip in the freshwater lake on the day of Janai Purnina. As per police administration, local vehicles available will mobilize to travel in the Goasaikunda pilgrims safely.

Saroj Shrestha, a resident in Laharepauwa, said the landslide occurred around two kilometers of area stretching from Banuwa Ghumti to the Trishuli River.

It is said that the landslide affected the private houses at Naubise area. Further details of the loss are awaited.
